Bibbulmun Association Irresponsible and pigheaded
Why would the Bib.Foundation be so pigheaded and stubborn to not look at why not all hikers are able to follow track diversion. Don't they have concern for hikers' safety? Can they not improve on their diversion markings and amend their procedures. Why do they not want to know which parts are inadequately marked and how they could improve safety? We could give them some easy pointers from first hand experience, some of which could have landed us in real danger, but NO, they think we were reckless and ill intending purposefully ignoring diversions and not deserving of their petty certificate. Maybe they should read some of the log books in the shelters and take note, or have a look at how even the Scouts and dozens of people don't make sense of some of them and maybe learn why. Yes, I am very upset about their attitude and I think they owe us an apology.

Home and Hosed
We made it!
Exactly on schedule Ree, Marilyn and Walter hiked into Kalamunda, the Northern Terminus of the Bibbulmun track! We had hiked 820 kilometers in total (due to the many closed sections we could not walk the entire 1000kms). Walking with us were Judy and Marg, good Camino friends who also joined us on the trail previously. We came to Kalamunda to find a ribbon across the trail. No, not another diversion, this was the finishing line put there by our friend Alastair who was there waiting for us with fellow hiker Phil and his wife who formed the welcoming committee!
Walter, congratulations on reaching your destination. We hope your goals were achieved.
However I'm afraid we cannot register your walk and issue you with an End-to-Ender badge, and it saddens us because we want to recognise every achievement.
This is because you intentionally ignored signage asking that you do not walk through various closed sections (due to prescribed burning) such as Willow Springs to Brockman Hwy and north through Nerang Campsite. Moreover you flouted the fact that you walked through this section (Nerang to the Powerlines) on social media. With this in particular we, our volunteers, Parks and Wildlife staff and other walkers were not at all impressed.
Sections are closed for your safety and the advice you were given before your walk (with our trip planning advice) and during your walk was obviously ignored. By doing this you place not only yourself at risk but others as well if indeed we have to perform a search and rescue.
By recognising your End-to-End we would be publicly endorsing what you did and I am afraid we cannot do this......

All Good in Balingup
Next tricky relocation is from Collie to Dwellingup next Friday morning. The trick is that we need to be dropped off at Driver Road half way between... The reason for this is that we need to skip 4 huts past Collie due to fire damage diversions following the fires earlier this year. If anyone is able to help us on Friday morning 15 May please call/SMS Walter on 0417067460 or email SUPPORT@coughing4cf.com.
A special mention to The Posthouse Backpackers who are helping us with a night in Balingup tonight! http://theposthouse.net.au

Megaday for us
We lost Eleanor in Pemberton as she caught the 6am bus to Busselton. We had shared a nice pub meal which included a pint of Guinness starter and a bottle of the best big red that Pemberton had to offer. This town really rocks, and I say this because they sell and eat local foods, which included Pemberton trout.
On our rest day we raided the local IGA and visited an organic whole foods shop. Not intending to buy anything I walked in for a look. How could i resist... Marilyn and I both bought more than we could carry.
We also bought a large tube of glue to try fix my shoes. The hopefully fixed shoe is now glued and drying in the caravan for the next week.
In the morning Greg, who met us at Boat Harbour hut found us on the campsite and we had a nice chat. This led to him being persuaded to help relocate the caravan to Donnelly River which I had been told was 30 odd kms away. Greg and I left the campsite and drove over an hour... Turned out it was 95kms away (using sealed roads) and same back. Lots of back burning happening where we drove, lots of rain, it got dark and we were out of phone reception :)
Greg is bussing to Collie and is walking back to Pemberton, a long hike.
The following day we left at about 8am for the 25km day. We had plenty of rain as we walked up and down through forests, past Brook dam and an arboretum. Had lunch under a scant ray of sun but eventually got flushed out by rain again. Soaked and exhausted we arrived at Beedelup Campsite shortly after 4pm, 27km later. We had to walk back at one point when we hadn't seen the Waigi signs for a while and my GPS was still pointing to the wrong destination. This explained the extra 2kms.

Great day, good company, and steak!...
Up early to see the roo's get some 'skippy feed' we soon set off for campsite Schafer in the North escorted, no less, by Sam the resident dog to where the trail picked up. Beautiful day, lots of sunshine, greener pastures, cattle, emus in the distance, black cockatoos, another set of unidentifiable animal prints and a footwear swap for Walter (unbelievably he's now hiking in those toe shoes!!).
Only a 12 or so km day saw us into camp early for lunch at 1pm, and we waited for wally's mate Chris from Perth to join us for dinner with steak and bourbon (Dahl for me tonight...)! Of course Walter predicted his arrival time within 4 mins. He will sleep the night after kindly moving the caravan to Pemberton and hiking 5kms in to meet us.
I couldn't resist a swim in the chilly dam then starting a fire with embers to warm up again. The sun still shines, the birds are chirping. It's a beautiful day...

Big Tingle Trees...
From the Frankland River it was only a skip and a jump (of 16.1km...) to the caravan which we were to meet at Walpole. The caravan park was actually at Coalmine Beach just before it.
We walked past the Giant Tingle tree with a deck around it to protect its roots from trampling tourists. Decades ago people parked their car inside for photos...
All sorts of strange mushrooms are now growing on the track too. At the last view point where we had lunch only 5km from the end a friendly Canberra couple offered to take our packs down and I had to give it some serous thought before coming to my senses :)
Our caravan had not quite made it yet when we arrived, but arrived soon after. Mike the manager at the Coalmine Beach caravan park was very sympathetic to our cause and gave us a favorable rate and a huge space for the caravan where we didn't have to unhook it from the car (we like that!).
Walpole Town centre was not far away, and we walked the 3-4kms along the Bib track to the local pub for a beer and a meal. Sure enough we meet the managers of the competing campground in town :) - also very nice people. When we left the pub we were told the police were on the lookout for us and would pick us up if they saw us walking home along the dark highway. A ute with a friendly couple beat them to it.
A comfy sleep in the caravan and Eleanor was stowed away in her MSR tent as per usual :), Laundry today and a relocation to Northcliffe.
